It was one of those ordinary work days. I was sitting in front of my desktop seeming very busy yet being very bored. I was still engrossed in my pretend business when the security lady at the door appeared at my cubicle. "Aunty" she said "yes?" I replied "e get pesin wey dea find you; e carry package come for you" I looked beyond her to see the delivery man carrying a package. He walked up to me and handed it to me along with a book for me to sign. I cautiously took the pack from him and signed for it. I asked who it was from but he said he didn't know. I waited for the duo to leave before tearing open the package, in it was a brand new iphone 6 with a pre loaded sim card and only one number saved on it. "creepy" I thought to my self, I stared at the phone because I couldn't make out what to do next with the phone. Then it rang and a startled me dropped the phone on the table. I was afraid to pick it and curious as well. I wanted to know who was on the other end of the other end of the phone line. I could feel the boring eyes of colleagues on me. I picked up courage and slide the screen to take the call. "Hello" I said in a voice much more confident than I was at the time.

Perdition
beautiful destruction
as peaceful as death
smiling in painful ending
an heir of perdition
tipsily brawling sorrowfully
neglecting the unmerited
longing for emptiness
clinging to futility
hanging unto a mirage
a worthless rag
then comes the end
fire crackling and flowing
voices wailing in anguish
deafening for eternity
perdition it is.

HOOKED 6
Lara was exited to be home again, its been 6 months now since she returned to Nigeria to start her new job at an oil and gas firm in Lagos. Being in the U.K had been a challenging but beautiful experience for her. She had matured in so many ways apart from her age but nothing had affected her view of life more than an experience she had Five years ago. She exhaled at the thought of AB. He was in the past now but she wished she had handled things differently. She never got her self to move on entirely, and she knew it was time to move on. She had dated other men but nothing came of her relationships in the past five years. She shook her head...she didn't want to feel this way. She heard he had gotten married two years after she left, that ship had sailed and she wanted to desperately forget him and the sense of loss she felt when ever she thought of him to disappear. "he is married forget him!" she said to herself. She picked up her hand bag and car keys and walked out of the room.
Lara had gotten the call from the Executive directors office, she had been summoned for a meeting which took 3 hours of brain storming on strategic steps to make the company more productive. The fruit of the three hour meeting was that Lara would have to go to Abuja for a one week meeting , next week to meet with various stake holders. she hated such meetings especially because of the irritating old men who always tend to hold on to her hand too long and make flirtatious comments at her. but she hated the younger men who always wanted to try their muscle at intimidation before they discovered that she too could play hard ball. Lara smiled as she walked out of her office; it was time to go home. Maybe she would give her self a treat before she went home she thought, after all the evening was still very young it was just 5pm. A good movie and some shopping would be nice...

HOOKED 5
Lara lay on her bed thinking of what to do. She had tried every thing possible to stop A.B from coming to her house to pick her up. She did not want the embarrassment of a cabu cabu coming to take her out. She was seriously distressed and had spent hours thinking but she wasn't able to come to a reasonable conclusion; a conclusion that wouldn't be so obvious. She had called AB earlier and tried to dissuade him from coming to get her. She had tried to convince him into committing to a meet up but he refused. She tossed and turned...time was passing and she dreaded every passing minute, not because AB was anticipated to be a bad date but because she was afraid of the embarrassment that could result from AB and his cabu cabu. What if some one saw her with him ? how will she introduce him? and his taxi....she considered calling the evening off then put the thought away. No she would see this through and that will be it...hopefully this will be a very short date...

AB sat on his bed...he was in high spirits. His day had been fine so far, his house project was progressing well and he had taken time to clean his place and wash his car inside out. He leaned back and laid back on the bed, hand folded into the back of his head. He couldn't wait for 4pm when he was to pick Lara up. She had called earlier to ask if they could meet up instead of him coming for her but he had insisted on coming to get her. He had been looking forward to this day for months now and he wanted it to be perfect. AB laid on his bed staring at the ceiling, he could almost see her face clearly on the ceiling. His mind drifted to their conversation earlier...he had picked up a trace of anxiety in her voice. He wondered why but now that he thought of it, he could understand why. Even though he wasn't altogether sure, he suspected that the reason she was anxious about him coming to get her was because she was embarrassed by him. A frown appeared on AB's face at the thought that Lara could feel that way about him, not that he blamed her...he understood her challenges and what she might be going through having to merge both worlds. It is never an easy thing to do especially if the lady was from the high end. He wondered what might be if this doesn't work out but he pushed the thought away. He would concentrate on his date ...he wasn't about to spoil it...he hoped Lara would be open minded enough to accept him for who he is and not what he does... AB closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

HOOKED 4
Lara rolled on her bed. She had woken up earlier than usual and had spent longer than usual praying. She also prayed more fervently than usual. You never know the value of life until you almost loose it. She lay on her bed with little or no motivation for work. She thought of calling in sick but that would have been a lie and Lara certainly isn't on to lie her way out of responsibilities. She could call in late. "Lara" Zubby called from behind her door before popping her head through the door "morning love" she greeted. "morning" Lara responded, "no work?" Zubby asked.
"work dea o...but am in no mood for it...I think I will just take my time and go later. I'll call in late" "okay" Zubby said. "are you okay?" she continued " coz if your not, you could always call the cab guy...what's his name again?" "AB" "yeah AB....you can call him to take you to work" " zubby ...I'll be fine" "okay o...me am off to work, take care of your self today " Zubby left and Lara collapsed on her bed and closed her eyes..and resisted the thought of calling AB.

HOOKED 3
Lara stood waiting for a cab . She closed late from work and was running late for church.
She took a glance at her watch 5:45 she had to be in church by 6:00pm and she wanted to get home first to pick up her bible and bible study materials. She wondered why all the cabs she saw for some weird reason were going to Dutse. She waited and silently prayed a Gwarimpa bound cab would come along so she could get going . She just might have to take a drop with the way things were going..."federal housing Gwarimpa!" she heard the familiar high toned cheerful voice "kai! its him"
Lara got in and the cab started moving.
"hello love" he said in an excited chatter
"How was work today" he continued " its been I while since I saw you, what can I offer you?"
Lara felt like disappearing from the whole scene and from curious glances of other customers. she looked at him with astonished gaze.
A passenger dropped and he still continued" would you like some vitamin c dear,? its all I have...please have some". " no thank y... " Lara didn't get to finish her reply because he went on. "oh come to the front love" other passengers grunted and yabbed him. surprisingly Lara found herself laughing at his continuous rapid talking...it was Canary like. she found it amusing. The remaining two passengers got down and Lara found herself in the middle of a conversation with the cabbie. He was telling her about his brothers wedding, Which he attended somewhere in his village. " where are you from?" she heard herself ask " Delta"
"what part of delta?" "Ogume" he replied "wow! I schooled there" she said " so how do you like my home town?" "what's special about your home town?" she asked " you want to tell me you didn't fall in love enough with it to want to go back?" she looked at him and smiled "Nope" They found themselves talking about places they both knew. There were almost at her stop and coincidentally she was the only passenger left. He quickly looked at her and said " please take my number and add me on whatsapp" "huh" she said

HOOKED 2
Lara walked out of the gates of her estate. Her eyes unconsciously travelled towards the direction of the taxi drivers boarding passengers headed to Wuse. This was the third time she had done that this morning, even though she couldn't understand why she had to keep looking over there. She had decided a hundred times not to give the cute ebony cabbie another thought. She had to concentrate on other things. More over she was not even available. "what!" she thought "did I just think that". Another thought of the cute cabbie crossed her mind again and Lara found herself smiling. "too bad she won't be going to wuse today...am sure he would lookout for me too bad I won't be there" she thought to herself with a pang of regret and pity that she didn't warn him. " What! " she thought to herself." what is up with me today! this guy is not in the least bit date-able by her standards" She had to stoop this nonsense! she shook her head as if to shake the thought of the cabbie off. she turned the opposite direction hailed a taxi going to Lugbe that was where she was to work for the day and she doesn't owe any one any explanation. With time she should forget the cabbie and his cute smile....if she ignored seeing him...she should...

Words From A Father To A Son About Marraige
1. My son, if you keep spending on a woman and she never asked you if you’re saving or investing, and she keeps enjoying the attention, don’t marry her.
2. My son, a woman could be a good wife to you, some could be a good mother to your children but if you’ve found a woman like a mother to you, your children and your family, please don’t let her go.
3. My son, don’t confine the position of your wife to the kitchen, where did you get that from? Even in our days, we had farm-lands where they worked every morning . . . that was our office.
4. My son, if I tell you that you’re the head of the house, don’t look at your pocket; look if you will see a smile on your wife’s face.
5. My son, if you want to have a long life, let your wife be in-charge of your salary, it will be difficult for her to spend it when she’s aware of the home needs and bills to pay but if it’s in your care, she will keep you asking even when all has been spent.

HOOKED
He sat in his taxi yelling "wuse wuse wuse" when his eye caught the sight of a young lemon skinned lady, standing near an electric pole waiting to cross the road. Slender and of average height, but what caught his interest most was her dressing. she was dressed in a yellow and orange suit, short skirt and black hose with a black neat pointed shoe. "wow" he taught " "beautiful! so elegant"
"wuse" a passenger asked through the window of the car interrupting his thoughts. "eh?" he asked startled "wuse" the passenger asked again. "yes wuse" he replied " "enter" the passenger opened the front door and jumped in he shot a glance back at the spot where the young lady had been standing but she was not there any more.
He went back to his calling for passengers "wuse wuse" he called out two more people got in to his cab and he took off as he called . He stock his head out to shout out a greeting to a friend "broda!" he called out "ey AB" the other cab driver called out to him in response to his greeting. Its time to hustle he thought to himself as he drove away .

A Teens Diary
The first time I saw him was in Sunday school… many years ago. I remember sitting at a corner in the Sunday school class room waiting for the teacher to come. The class was noisy …every one chatted away boisterously with their friends. He had a group of friends around Him. They laughed a lot to some joke they told themselves. I couldn’t help but notice that they could all sing. They were seniors among our age group, we were at the lower end. They were fourteen we were twelve. So we kept our distance but I still could not ignore them…Or rather, Him. I only could stare, he turns suddenly often times and catches me staring and smiles at which I quickly retract my gaze. On one of those moments I heard TobeChukwu nudging me. “What” I complained. “Where is your mind?” She queried. On him I was going to say but rather kept it to myself and said “here now”.
Any way” she continued, did you learn the memory verse. “Yes” I said. Can I recite it for you?” she asked, “Yh…. I said as I stole another glance at him. What is his name I thought to myself? Well maybe I am better off without it. I better just pretend he doesn’t exist.” With that resolve I turned my mind back to Tobe who was by now ending her memory verse recitation…”Zachariah chapter 6 vs 1- 15”. I smiled at her …”hmm” I said. “You tried o”. Tobe smile back…Tobe had a beautiful smile that showed through her perfect set of white gaped teeth. All of a sudden we were hushed by Sunday school student rushing in and shouting- Aunt Esther is coming!….aunt Esther is coming!.
The Chronicles of Two Lovers
Martha and Jibo had been dating since their university days. They had dated for five years now and really wanted to get married except that they hadn’t enough money to support their marriage plans. They decided to give it time and save. They got Jobs in different states so they rarely saw each other even though they spoke often.
Martha would sometimes remind Jibo that time was running out. She was under a lot of pressure from friends and family. She would often run into a lot of “eligible suitors” many of which she wished she could just settle with, if only Jibo wasn’t in the picture. She just wanted to settle the marriage issue and rest! Jibo didn’t seem serious about the whole thing to her. She felt he had excuses for everything. Oh she wished he was more stable minded, focused, hustle inclined, then she won’t have to worry about thinking for him all the time. She hated that he never had an opinion about anything she asked him about…”Whatever you decide is fine” “I trust you” she made a face at the thought of his words. Why couldn’t he just get things right? She was really getting tiered of his excuses and overly laid back attitude. How she wish he was a little bit more like Victor.

CIRCLE OF LIFE
Beautiful Roses of emptiness
Visions of the Past
A sea of yesterday’s happenings
The yearnings of a longing heart
Memories of happenings yet to come.
The ticking clock
It’s ours to choose and wait
To do it all over again.
