Calabar Carnival and Festivals 2016

Calabar Carnival

It is Christmas season once more and all roads leads to the beautiful city of Calabar in Cross River State of Nigeria where the biggest Carnival and street party is already fully loaded and overflowing. The Calabar Carnival is the biggest Carnival/Street party in Africa and features numerous bands and countless number of breath-taking activities.
Like 2015, the theme of this years edition is "Climate Change" and the slogan to go with it is "Bigger, Bolder, Better!!!
The events are divided into 4 weeks which include the Millennium Week (1-10 Dec 2016), The Sports Fiesta (12-17 Dec 2016), The TINAPA Family Fun Festival (19-24 Dec 2016) and the Carnival Week (25-31 Dec 2016). Among the activities this year is the Green Initiative which encompasses the Green Ball - a celebration of the Government's efforts in combating Climate Change, the Green Symposium which will bring major protagonists of the Climate Change cause globally together to discuss and educate the teeming populace and the 10,000 Tree Planting Project a.k.a. The Green Carnival. The carnival will also be streamed live online to audiences.
To further spice it up, an android app called "OBIOMI" has been developed and deployed to give tourist the best Carnival experience ever. The name "Obiomi" is of Efik origin and it means "My City". The App has a record of all the places that a tourist might be interested in like Eateries, Churches, Clubs, Hotels, Resorts, Tourist Attractions, Mobile Toilets, Sports Facilities, Markets, Plazas and Super Markets, Hospitals, Pharmacies, and what have you. The App is just sweet as it has embedded maps to guide you to where ever you are going.
With all the preparations that have been made, this years Carnival promises to be the best ever, and we are here to keep you posted.
